I thoroughly enjoyed visiting North Shields Fish Quay this morning. I met with fishermen to discuss the issues facing their industry and I had a tour of the quay to find out more about exciting development plans. The fishing industry provides more than 500 direct jobs in the North of Tyne and supports many more indirectly. It also contributes tens of millions of pounds to our economy every year. This is a historic industry with a bright future and if I’m elected mayor it will have my full support. Huge thanks to Laura Foster, Nik Hanlon and Adam Riley for hosting me.
